Therapeutic effects of glycerol for increased intracranial pressure

Abstract
|

|
We have evaluated the therapeutic effect of 10% glycerol in patients who had clinical features of increased intracranial pressure. Patients were treated with intravenous glycerol for several days (1.5gm/kg of body Wt/day). Clinical evaluation and laboratory tests were done regularily.
Taking into consideration of cerebral dehydrating effect, untoward reaction and water￢electrolytes imbalance, we considered glycerol is more effective than other agents in treatment of increased intracranial pressure.
